Those Aren't Skeletons In His Closet...

Move over Larry Craig, your airport bathroom cruising is old news. Meet Roy Ashburn, Republican state senator out of California.

Roy voted against homosexual rights throughout his 14 year career. So imagine the surprise of his constituents when he was arrested for DUI… after leaving a gay nightclub. Did I mention the male passenger? Perhaps Roy was just shuttling the endangered young man to a Bible study group…

The divorced father of four admitted to a Bakersfield radio station that he is homosexual.

No one is talking about what I am appalled about. No, not the hypocrisy (I’m used to that now). Why is a state senator driving while intoxicated? You can’t pony up the cash for a taxi? Afraid someone will recognize your car parked in the lot? I hate people who are too stupid to properly plan their recreational activities. Also, if you have to get hammered before having sex with a guy, maybe you aren’t really gay.

Roy Ashburn: proving once again you can lie through your teeth with a cock in your mouth.

  1. Nice.... Love this whole thing, so right. Same thing as those Hollywood party girls driving around in their cars when they should get a driver.

Amazing, post people who publicly display their homophobia really have alot to hide behind those words. Isn't that always the case?

  3. I am sorry. Where's the hypocrisy, Ginx? Voting against gay rights, even if a person is gay, is not hypocritical. There are indeed gay men who oppose gay marriage, for example. Are they hypocrites?

A gay man could only be hypocritical here if he believed that gays do not deserve any rights and then, as a gay man, he enjoys the rights of a gay man in secret (in some other country or state). If a gay man opposes gay marriage and then turns out to have married another man, well, there's hypocrisy for you. But to be a closeted gay who votes against gay rights is hardly hypocrisy: Did Roy Ashburn ever pronounce that closeted gay men should out themselves, and should never vote against gay rights as closeted gay men? No, he didn't. It may be hard to believe, but there are gay men who do not like being gay; I recall the Amer. Psychology Assoc. saying in its initial literature for dealing with homosexuality after it normalized and downgraded it in the DSM that homosexuality is ONLY a psychological problem that merits treatment if it is perceived as a bad thing by the patient who is gay. Perhaps Mr. Ashburn is this type.

Alas, now what? I imagine he'll fully accept his homosexuality and become a Democrat. Then everything will be fine.

    A proper response?

  4. He was not going to run for re-election in the next cycle because he had voted in favor of tax increases, which angered Republicans. That happened before this whole scandal.

The guy voted against making Harvey Milk Day a holiday in California. Roy was simply opposing any and everything gay in order to appeal to his wealthy, prejudiced constituency (a demographic often overlooked in Cali, but a pronounced one all the same... think Prejean).

I frankly don't give a shit what was in the man's heart or the difficulties he faced because of his self-imposed situation. He is an ideological whore who gets zero respect from me.

I'm sure you don't see the hypocrisy, just as you surely fail to see the hypocrisy of those with little money living in trailers voting Republican.

  5. Ginx,

It's the Democrats who are the exploiters and oppressors of the poor. When are you going to accept that? The rich that have you in knots are not Republicans. What should bother you is the folks living in hovels and the projects who keep voting for Democrats.

And you SHOULD care what was in the guy's heart. Otherwise you come across as a judgmental crank, worse than any Bible-thumper. Christianity is too judgmental, or so I hear. And who do I hear that from? People who are chronically and shamelessly judgmental, damning people they don't even know, consigning them to some hell, banishing them to some lake of fire.

Show how Mr. Ashburn's closeted homosexuality makes him a hypocrite; it was this "sin" of his that you so quickly condemned. Don't now introduce some other reason why he's a hypocrite, one unrelated to your initial charge.

    Peace.

  6. I reserve every right to judge, as I know Christians judge. Christians are hypocrites because their own religion condemns judging others. I know, this kind of thinking requires keeping two different ways of thinking in your head at one time. It must be tough.

Eight years of Bush deregulation and you have the balls to blame Democrats... I'm no Democrat, but they held the presidency and the legislature for less time than Republicans over the last 30 years. Republicans have no leg to stand on in the debate. Their ideas are woefully outdated failures which have been demonstrated to promote poverty and widening class gaps.

  7. Wow... I am Canadian, and I even know better than that. All I have to say about this whole Republican/ Democrat thing is this-
    "Where is your bailout money?"

    As for the gay thing. Let us look at the definition of hypocrite;

    1. a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, esp. a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.
    2.
a person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, esp. one whose private life, opinions, or statements belie his or her public statements.

Here are 3 very easy things that are hypocritical about this man.

    1. Following the incident, a shaken Ashburn told Californians "I am gay." Also: “I would ask people to pray for me. My faith is very clear and very firm .. I pray to God that I can find peace, and I want to go back to work in the Senate and work hard for the people who sent me to the legislature.” He is praying, after he willingly put people's lives in danger by driving impaired. Not only is he not obeying the Bible by not refraining from harming others, "Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.
    —Proverbs 20:1

    2. Ashburn's voting record on issues affecting the gay and lesbian community. And, sure enough, it turns out "he has voted against every gay rights measure in the State Senate since taking office, including Recognizing Out-Of-State Same-Sex Marriages, Harvey Milk Day and Expanding Anti-Discrimination Laws." Clearly his actions are not consistent with his private life.

    3. The car he was driving drunk around his community was paid for by your taxpaying money.

  8. Well, not Bill's dollars... because he's one of the 7/8 Americans lucky enough to not live in California.

  9. Oh snap.... Even worse. How hard these types fall. They really do it to themselves. You know, if they guy got busted, and he had been openly gay, and still voting against, it would not have been so bad for him. Mind you, he totally would have had to live with a completely different type of heat, but he might have been able to tough it out.
